When the Game Is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box

Lately, I was spending more time with my kids and playing board games with them. When we play Monopoly, it is a serious business.  I mean serious business. All of us come up with the best strategies to win the game. When you own many properties and build houses and hotels, you feel like you achieved a great deal. Sometimes when the game runs for hours, we keep the game alive untouched and continue the next day.  Because no one wants to give up and loose until the game is over. Here comes the sad part, when the game is over, all the titles, money, houses, and hotels go back to the box.

Our life on earth is like a Monopoly Game. When our time on earth is over, we have to leave everything behind. Our bodies are made out of the dust, "and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it" (Ecclesiastes 12:7).   Moses prays to God in Psalm 90, "You return man to dust...You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers." A wise person will understand the brevity of life, especially when compared with eternity, and live for the glory of God. We will also pray like Moses, Lord, "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90:12).

Sooner or later, everyone has to depart this earth. When the time comes, will we say like Apostle Paul,  "...the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing" ( 2 Timothy 4:6-8).

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:1-2).

When I tear down my tent on this earth, all I want is to hear my Master say "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23).
